Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Street children remain a significant societal challenge, especially in urban and semi-urban areas like Katsina South Local Government Area (LGA), Katsina State. These children, often victims of poverty, neglect, and societal inequalities, face numerous risks, including exploitation, abuse, and limited access to education. Public relations (PR) plays a crucial role in addressing this issue by fostering awareness, mobilizing resources, and advocating for policy reforms through social campaigns. According to Adamu and Suleiman (2023), effective PR campaigns can bridge the gap between street children and rehabilitation opportunities by engaging communities and stakeholders. This study investigates how PR strategies are employed in social campaigns to rehabilitate street children in Katsina South LGA.
